In addition to educating rehabilitators, veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians, and animal control officers about bat rehabilitation, Bat World Sanctuary has partnered with experts in general wildlife rehabilitation to offer training in the North Texas area. These courses are accepted by the National Animal Care and Control Association and the Texas Department of State Health Services for Animal Control officer continuing education credit, and by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) for wildlife rehabilitator continuing education credit. The Wildlife Rehabilitation Basics: Well Baby Care workshop is also accepted by TPWD for initial permit qualification for new rehabilitators. This 2-day workshop covers basic wildlife rehabilitation skills, Texas wildlife rehabilitation permits and regulations, handling calls about wildlife and captive care from intake procedures through release, for healthy orphaned small mammals (i.e. squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, opossums). Please note this workshop does not address bird rehabilitation.
This two-day workshop prepares individuals to care for healthy orphaned native wildlife, including common regulations, safe handling, feeding, housing, enrichment, and release criteria.
This workshop meets the training requirement for initial qualification for new wildlife rehabilitators in Texas. For additional information about wildlife rehabilitation permits, please check with your state Department of Parks and Wildlife (aka Fish & Wildlife, Dept. of Natural Resources, etc).
